Managing Absence - free checklist!
It's not easy managing situations where people on your team are absent from your team due to sickness or injury. It can be very disruptive and time consuming to manage frequent short term or periods of long term sickness absence.
When they are returning to work, you may be tempted to try and get everything back to “normal” as soon as possible. Alternatively, you may find yourself and your team not wanting to cause upset by discussing the condition with the employee and giving them an unnecessarily light workload. Thankfully, there is a way to prevent this!
A return-to-work conversation can be an effective way to manage absence and support employees returning to work following a period of sickness absence. This can help identify ways that managers and the organisation can support the employee in returning to work successfully. This conversation can also help you evaluate how ready the employee is to carry out the full extent of the job, allowing you to reduce the chances of their work exacerbating their condition or causing another period of absence.
We're pleased to provide a return-to-work checklist for you to use when having this discussion, which can be downloaded here!
