World Menopause Day
World Menopause Day is an excellent occasion to get the conversation started about menopause in the workplace, something which affects a significant population of our country’s workforce but until recent years was very rarely discussed. It is estimated that 6 million According to research by the CIPD, while 3 in 5 women with menopause symptoms have stated that it has a negative impact on their work and 3 in 10 say it can sometimes prevent them from going into work, only 1/4 of these women feel comfortable enough to tell their managers the true reason for their absence.
There are many ways that employers can show support and spread awareness in your workplace. Why not try…
Hosting training sessions on menopause, what it involves and how to be mindful of it.
Talking openly about it. Reducing the stigma starts with saying the word.
Including menopause discrimination in your zero tolerance policy.
Establishing a line of communication with employees who are struggling with symptoms of the menopause. Help should be signposted and easily accessed by those who need it the most.
Considering tailored support for individuals: specialist advice, individual absence policies, flexible working arrangements and bespoke office adjustments.
